The Skylands Dulcimer String Band was formed during a meeting of the Rockaway Dulcimer Club, organized by George Nixon in September of 2015. The club was asked to provide an ensemble to play at a benefit event and shortly afterward started getting other performances.
The Band has played at the New Jersey State Fairgrounds, at various charitable and benefit concerts, Waterloo Village, Lusscroft Farm and the Foster-Armstrong House.
Beginning as an acoustic Folk/Celtic group, the Skylands Dulcimer String Band plays a mix of traditional, folk, Celtic, popular and seasonal music. So, you may hear a piece by Bach followed by a Lennon/McCartney tune, then hear a piece by Turlough O'Carolan. Switching instruments produces different combinations of sounds that resonate with the music being played.
